MURRAY STATE COMMIT

Scouting Report: Demarcus Croaker is arguably the most underrated player in Florida right now. Although being ranked as the number 12 player from Florida in the Class of 2013, he was not selected as a McDonald’s All-American nominee. A little over halfway through his senior season, Croaker has had many big games, including a 46 point performance against Timber Creek High School. He scores using a combination of sharpshooting from mid-range and behind the arc, as well as an amazing amount of athleticism to get to the rack. His defense may seem a little spotty at times, but he has the ability to block or alter shots when guarding opposing players due to his great leaping ability and long arms. Croaker is listed as the 102nd best player in his class according to his profile on rivals.com and should be able to play significant minutes as a freshman for the Racers next season.

6’0/155

Point Guard

Class of 2014

ESPN Rating: NR

Rivals Rating: NR

Schools Interested: Georgia, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, and Arkansas

Schools Offered: Murray State, UAB, Auburn, Samford, South Alabama, Tennessee Tech, Kennesaw State, Radford, Georgia State, Buffalo, Western Carolina, Mercer, UNC-Greensboro, and Belmont

Scouting Report: Jarvis is a pure shooting point guard who is efficient from mid-range and behind the arc. He is an improving finisher at the basket and is also becoming better at getting into the lane and drawing contact near the rim. Calhoun is currently a little underweight and needs to add strength, but his length and impressive leaping ability make up for the size disadvantage. His rebounding is a skill that also needs to be improve. All-in-all Calhoun has much room to improve, but he plays with a good offensive skill set making him a potential threat to score at any time.

Elgin Cook Having Strong Season

Murray State has already signed two players for the class of 2013, received a commitment from one other, and now have former Clemson guard, TJ Sapp, enrolled at the school where he’ll join the team next season. Yet, the Racers aren’t done with this class as they plan to sign Demarcus Croaker, who is already committed to the team, and one other player before the signing period is over. The only question that stands is, who will that final player be?

With many high school players still on Coach Steve Prohm’s radar, some have overlooked the Junior College players who have offers from Murray State, such as Elgin Cook. Cook is a 6’6 forward from Northwest Florida State who is having a strong season thus far. According to this recently released article on Cook, he is averaging 16.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. Over his last seven games, Cook has only missed nine shots and is shooting 82% from the field during that span.

A former Iowa State commit, he currently holds offers from Auburn, Gonzaga, Mississippi State, Murray State, New Mexico, Oregon, TCU, VCU, and Washington according to his profile on 247sports.com. Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina State, and West Virginia have also shown interest in the talented forward. 247sports also has him listed as the seventh best available JUCO prospect and the number one small forward in his class.

If Cook is able to continue this level of play, it will be interesting to see how his recruitment is affected. He would undoubtedly make a strong Murray State recruiting class even stronger, and would add experience as well as a high level of talent to next year’s team. This link will show you some of Cook’s highlights following his 2011 high school season.
